What to Expect
BEFORE THE SCAN
Your provider will get your height and weight and ask you a few questions before the scan. No special preparation is needed. You may eat and drink normally. Wear comfortable clothing without metal (zippers, snaps, underwire). You may be asked to remove jewelry, belts, or metal accessories.
DURING THE SCAN
You'll lie comfortably on you back on the table. The scanner will pass quietly over your body-it does NOT enclose you. The test is painless and noninvasive. The scan is fast and comfortable, often completed in about 7 minutes, with radiation exposure far below that of a standard X-ray. No injections or medications are required.
AFTER THE SCAN
You can resume normal activities right away. Your provider will review your results with you to include bone density measurements and body composition analysis.
